The Gershwin Innovation Award: Excellence in musical innovation. Breaking boundaries and merging of media styles into a unique art form. 2010 Winner - Tiesto. Tisto OON (Dutch pronunciation: [tisto]; born Tijs Michiel Verwest on January 17, 1969) is a Dutch musician, DJ and record producer of electronic dance music. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tisto.[3] On his latest productions, however, he has dropped the "DJ" label and is now known simply as "Tisto", an alias which is a twist of his childhood nickname.

In 1997 he founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink, where he released the Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series. In 1999 and 2000 he collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella. His 2000 remix of Delerium's "Silence" featuring Sarah McLachlan exposed him to more mainstream audiences. In 2001 he released his first solo album In My Memory which gave him several major hits that launched his career. Audiences say that Barnhart reminds them of a young George Carlin with the energy and characters of Robin Williams making Don funny on so many different levels...

Barnhart is one of the only headlining comedians that also does a comedy hypnosis show. Don can be booked either as a comedy headliner, comedy hypnotist or combination of both shows for your venue.

Don recently wrote, directed and starred in the indie thriller, "China Dolls" and can be heard regularly on The Bob and Tom Show and XM/Sirius Satellite Radio. Apatow dropped out of USC after two years and moved into an apartment with comedian Adam Sandler, whom he met at the Improv. He also continued performing standup comedy; and he admits that although his act was well-written, he was unable to develop his own unique comedic personality.

Apatow's next script was entitled Making Amends and had Owen Wilson attached as a man in Alcoholics Anonymous who decides to apologize to everyone he has ever hurt. However, the film was never made. Apatow did an uncredited rewrite of the 1998 Adam Sandler comedy The Wedding Singer.

From 1999 to 2002, he produced the short-lived television series Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. Both shows received critical acclaim but were canceled after a season because of low ratings; USA Today media critic Susan Wloszczyna called the shows "two of the most acclaimed TV series to ever last only one season". He additionally wrote and produced 3 TV pilots that were never aired: "North Hollywood", "Sick in the Head" and "Life on Parole" (with Brent Forrester). Apatow has screened and introduced them at "The Other Network", a festival of un-aired TV pilots produced by Un-Cabaret. He has previously vowed to include a penis in every one of his movies.

The Johnny Carson Award: Best emerging talent. Recognized as an exceptional talent in their field and someone to watch out for. 2010 Winner - Russell Peters. Peters began performing in Toronto, Ontario in 1989. He has since also performed in the United States, UK, Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Denmark, South Africa, the Caribbean, Vietnam, New Zealand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sweden, India, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, and Trinidad among other places.

He has been nominated for four Gemini Awards, the Canadian television awards. He hosted the Canada Day Comedy Festival 2006.

His comedy special Russell Peters: Outsourced, aired on Comedy Central on August 16, 2006. The DVD version features his uncensored performance.
Peters' DVD/CD combo Russell Peters: Red, White, and Brown was recorded on February 2, 2008 at The WAMU Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Peters and his brother self-produced and financed Red, White and Brown.
Peters also currently produces and stars on the radio situation comedy series, Monsoon House, on CBC Radio One.
Between June 2008 and June 2009, Peters earned $10 million, making him one of the highest-paid comedians during that twelve-month period.

George Burns Lifetime Achievement Award: Overall contribution or excellence in live performance. 2010 Winner - Carol Burnnet. The hour-long Carol Burnett Show, which debuted in 1967, garnered 23 Emmy Awards and won or was nominated for multiple Emmy Awards every season it was on the air. Its ensemble cast included Tim Conway (who was a guest player until the 9th season), Harvey Korman, Lyle Waggoner, and the teenaged Vicki Lawrence (who was cast partly because she looked like a young Burnett).

The network did not want her to do a variety show because they believed only men could be successful at variety but Burnett's contract required that they give her one season of whatever kind of show she wanted to make. She chose to carry on the tradition of past variety show successes and the rest is history.

Burnett became known for her acting and talent, and for ending each show by tugging her ear, which was a message to the grandmother who had raised her to let her know that she was doing well and that she loved her.
A true variety show in its simplest of forms, The Carol Burnett Show struck a chord with viewers through parodies of films ("Went With the Wind"), television ("As the Stomach Turns") and commercials. Burnett and team struck gold with the original skit "The Family", which eventually was spun off into its own television show called Mama's Family, starring Vicki Lawrence.

The first annual awards were given out in a small private ceremony in Las Vegas, NV. Candidates for next year's awards are already being considered and will be announced March 2011.

There is no doubt about it - certain styles of homes and certain types of decor are more popular than others. If you plan to put your house on market, having a basic understanding of the most popular housing trends will help you get a better idea of how well your home is likely to perform on the market as well as the types of decorative changes you should make in order to have the best chance at selling your home

It's All in the Style and the Age

There are three styles and ages of homes that are the most popular among homebuyers. These include Pre-WWII homes, Mid-Century homes and Mediterranean homes.

There are a wide variety of home styles that fall within the Pre-WWII era of homes. Some of these include:

*Arts & Crafts bungalows
*California Missions
*Colonials
*Greek revivals
*Italianates
*Queen Annes
*Tudors

Pretty much any type of architecture featuring Old-World styling and character, such as those with frame and wood exteriors covered in brick and stone or stucco, is likely to draw in more buyers.

Mid-Century homes, which are those that were built between 1945 and 1965, are also popular among buyers. More specifically, those homes that feature the sleek 1950s style, such as those that were built by Frank Lloyd Wright or in the same style, are sure to be a hit among buyers. These homes are typically characterized by having shallow or flat-pitched roofs, triangular windows, open floor plans and other uses of geometric shapes.

Mediterranean homes are also popular with homebuyers. These homes are characterized by their Italian or Spanish detailing, such as tile roofs, stucco exteriors and multiple levels. The entrances of these homes tend to be covered and the homes themselves feature rounded wall corners and archways throughout. The patios also typically have columns and are decorated with terra cotta pottery. Dramatic staircases, which are typically located near the front of the home, and wrought iron accents are also standard features found with these homes.

Kitchens and Bathrooms

Kitchens and bathrooms have long been the most important rooms in any home. Therefore, if you are planning to put your home on the market, you might want to consider making a few upgrades in order to make your home more attractive to potential buyers. Some features homebuyers look for in kitchens include:

*6-burner ranges
*Convection ovens
*Whisper-quiet range hoods and commercial exhaust fans
*Stainless steel dishwashers
*Sub-zero refrigerators
*Built-in wine coolers
*Granite, exotic stone or poured cement counters
*Kitchen islands featuring an extra sink
*Floor-to-ceiling spice racks
*Towel warmers
*Built in microwaves
*Recessed lighting and hanging-pendant fixtures

Some of the most desirable bathroom features include:

*Lots of glass and stone features
*Vessel sinks of all sizes and shapes mounted into Asian-inspired vanities or antique dressers
*Brushed nickel fixtures
*Double-handle faucets mounted on the walls
*Dual rain showerheads
*Hand-held shower sprayers
*Power-assisted, low-rise toilets
*Motion light sensors

Avatar: The Last Air Bender, set to be released on July 2nd, 2010 is set to be based on the Avatar: The Last Airbender Emmy-winning animated television series. The series has also profited by selling action figures, trading card games, video games, stuffed animals, and lego sets as well. The series was produced by both Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures. The series is set to be a trilogy but this is only the first in a set of three. It began production in March of 2009. The story is based on Asian mythology and art along with a variety of martial arts fighting styles. It was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko but has been adapted by M. Night Shyamalan. He is working with Sam Mercer, Scott Aversano, Frank Marshall, and Kathleen Kennedy on the film to turn it from a television series into a movie and eventually it will come to your computer screen so that it can be one of the choices you have to watch movies online.

The story line is based on Aang who is an individual who would rather take on an adventure during the day instead of taking on his role as the Avatar. He is played by Noah Ringer. Katara and Sodda, Aangs friends, travel with him to find the Waterbending master at the North Pole so that they may also learn the secrets to be found. While this is going on the current Fire Lord of the Fire Nation is fighting a war against the Water Tribes, Air Nomands, and the Earth Kingdom as well. Some of the other stars include Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel, and Nicola Peltz.

The first trailer was released on June 24th, 2009 after the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as well as June 22nd, 2009 on the ET network. It features Aang in a temple while it is being attacked by the fire nation ships. The theatrical trailer was released on March 25th, 2010 to set the scene for the big summer release. The music for the film was composed by James Newton Howard. He has formerly been given recognition for working on The Dark Knight with Hans Zimmer as well and has also worked with Shyamalan on multiple occasions.

Casting has been given some criticism so far. Many people feel that Aang looks entirely too young and has too much of a baby face to accurately portray the character correctly. There has also been some confusion over Zukos scar not being as prominent as it should be along with lacking his hair style.

The trailer does not give much way to expectations for the film. Some may wonder if the movie will do justice for the original series. It is typical though that diehard fans will find fault somewhere because nothing can ever be adapted completely from one rendition to the other. All that can be done is to wait and see what the director will be able to produce if you decide to see it in theaters. If you would rather watch movies online you will be waiting a bit longer. A trailer may give a glimpse into what can be expected but in no way can it show just what will be coming to the big screen when it hits on July 2nd, 2010.

A friend of mine due to hard times has sold some of his properties and one is a painting that belongs to his family years ago. He was astonished to know the "market value" of the said painting when he had it for appraisal. He doesn't realize what he had been admiring at their living room as child turns out as to what it can be considered a masterpiece!

Art can be lucrative if you had the eye and if you can research a little.

ART FOR THE NEWBIES

It is not simply for art for art's sake. You must really know what you want and if you are planning to display it at your house, condo or building. As art is very broad in terms of styles and kind. Asked yourselves if you want a landscape, an abstract, a still life, a pen and ink etc...

How much is your budget? How much are you willing to pay? Most paintings now a days are competitively priced but usually...if you are buying from a relatively unknown artist it can prove to be affordable and the same time it can also be gamble ( hoping the art or the artist in the future can turn out to be another Jackson Pollack, Picasso or Juan Luna).

Well known artist or established artist works are usually high priced but it can prove to be worth your money in the long run. The market value of the art you bought is usually tied up with just how well respected or career driven the artist was. The tendency is his or her price would surely go up if there is a demand for it especially if that artist becomes a national artist---you hit the goldmine!

When buying art works, it pays to asked around either an art curator, art dealer, an art gallery owner or used to your advantage harness the power of the net. But really nothing beats when it is recommended by close friends or relatives.

BEFORE YOU BUY ART

1) You must know the difference between buying oil, watercolor, pastel or acrylic. It is important to know what art materials are involved with the creation of that art work you are buying.

2) Decide if you are going to buy directly from the artist itself, to an art dealer or go straight to the art gallery. Consider the framing, delivery and other services involved when negotiating with the price or what is included to your payment.
When buying through an art gallery, you usually get to know the profile of the artist and essentially getting a proof or certificate that what your buying is real not fake (as in original) and also verify if it has several reproductions already such as the print version.

If you are buying directly from the artist, you have the option to ask for an authentication paper complete with the artist's signature.

3) Regardless if what you bought is from a relatively unknown artist or considered a masterpiece, you should also know how to preserve or maintain it as time goes by moisture and humidity is the art piece main enemy! Colors can fade. A retouch might be needed.

3) Your art should reflect your aesthetic taste. Choose art that can help you relax like a landscape or underwater. An art that can make you think like abstracts, an art that reflects your dreams and fantasies like surreal paintings. It brings out your personality and something that brings a certain kind of fulfillment---one that you can be truly proud of hanging at your walls.

4) You must remember value or price of your art work will not go up over night. Hence, treat it like a mutual fund or a time deposit.

5) Always but from reliable sources. The traditional way is still the best there is.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN RE-SELLING YOUR ART

1) Finding a prospective buyer is not easy. Unless, you have a cultured/art loving network. You can off course go through the expert hands of an art dealer or art gallery owner but they also get a great deal of share of your selling price.

2) Keep all the receipts, relevant documents like a copy of artist resume or any proofs of ownership. Especially if is a high end piece of art work.

3) Pricing your paintings really depends on the art trends. The art work you bought long ago might be the "in" trend at that time but a few years from now it might not be.

Later on with enough experience you can build a collection that you can benefit from it in the long run. Always remember...time is your friend; don't assume you can profit from your art work right away. The good news is...art doesn't really decline instead its price usually goes up!

In the meantime, enjoy that priceless beauty of the art work you had purchased.
